BioBase is an inorganic, bioresorbable bone substitute made of pure-phase ?-tricalcium phosphate. Since it is completely synthetic, infections and immunological reactions are excluded. Biobase has a system of micropores (< 5 ?m) and macropores (up to 1 mm) with a porosity of approx. 65%. This leads to a significantly larger material surface and thus to increased reaction kinetics of the resorptive processes. The macropores are large enough to enable the formation of osteoblasts and blood vessels. This in turn guarantees rapid formation of new bone substance, while at the same time the structure of the bone substitute material can also be resorbed from the inside.
The special surface structure of Biobase leads to increased calcium elution, which has a positive effect on new bone formation. BioBase acts as a guide for the sprouting bone through its osteoconductive function (guide rail effect). Biobase is broken down at the same rate as new bone is formed. Duration of resorption is between 6 and 14 months. BioBase is manufactured, sterilized and packaged exclusively in Germany.
